When I was younger I was really into painting, but it's something I put away for quite a few years. In the last few months, it's something I've picked up again & I have really enjoyed taking time out to do it.
I had a vague idea that one day I wanted to sell some of my paintings, but I'm not quite there yet. Maybe after I've had a few more months of practice...
But I also had a go at digitally recreating some of my favourite posters I have at home. They are digital pieces that copy vintage tourism posters from the 1920s. After doing a few I decieded that I was happy enough with them to put them online and try to sell them. So I set up my art store.
My Art Store
Since the posters are all digital and can be easily printed and shipped, I thought it would be cool to have my own e-commerce platform, rather than something like an Etsy store. To handle payments I set up the products in Stripe and have used a Gatsby frontend like this blog. This way I didn't need to setup anything lke WooCommerce or Magento with a pricey WordPress hosting. I can host for free on Netlify!
Hopefully before long I'll have a diverse store of posters, prints, and canvases. But for now, I feel that posters is a good start.
